The infamous award issued by the Nazi party upon having four or more children. The award had three categories, much like sports medals, of bronze, silver and gold. Bronze (3rd class) signified having four or more German children that were of deutschblütig (of German blood-heredity). This particular medal is of the late design due to the rear inscription that includes “16. Dezember 1938”. Only awards produced between 1939 and 1945 included this. The first awards ever produced, in 1938, did not include this.
No official records have survived about how many of these awards ended up being awarded by 1945, however by 1941 over 4.7 million had been given out.
